Abstract:

More than 200 milllion people in China are afflicted with a thyroid related disorder. The majority of patients may cause hypothyroidism after surgery or radiation therapy. The synthetic thyroid hormone is the replacement therapy for hypothyroidism. Due to the great progresses in the research of pluripotent stem cell differentiation, thyroid follicular cells derived from pluripotent stem cells may become a solution to this issue. In this review, we summarize recent advances in the enrichment and purification of differentiated cells, and discuss the concerns of tumorigenicity, immunological rejection and clinical uses.

Key words: Thyroid gland, Embryonic stem cells, Pluripotent stem cells, Messenchymal stem cells, Cell differentiation
